There seems to never be a shortage of people who think we (University of North Texas Athletics) were named after Mean Joe Greene. I hope that this website clarifies things; that we all understand how the Mean Green came about, the greatest moniker in all of college athletics.

Above you will find a full scan and text transcription of Randy Galloway’s article about the origin of the name. I believe it is the best written evidence we have to prove where the name came from. HINT: we were not named after Big Joe.
